Red Ribbon Week Ideas for School

One of the best ways to combat drug use is to start by educating students about the consequences. DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena made the ultimate sacrifice trying to make a difference so children could enjoy a future without drug abuse. Red Ribbon Week is meant to carry on his legacy. Schools take this week to engage students and help turn them away from the lure of drug use through a variety of week long activities. While every school may choose a different approach, some activities are a must.

Talks From Experts

Students may not see teachers and principals as experts when it comes to drug abuse. Instead, bring in law enforcement officials who can fully answer students’ questions. Learning first hand how drugs can ruin someone’s life is key in teaching students that there are better ways to enjoy their lives.

Red Ribbon Pledges

While educating students, offer red ribbons to students who sign pledges to be drug free. Students will wear their ribbons with pride and be encouraged to continue with their pledge throughout their lives. Games and contests can be a part of the pledging and educating process to peak students’ interest and help them further understand the value of staying drug free.

Positive Reinforcement

Decorate the school with educational material. From red ribbons, posters and displays, decorating hallways, cafeterias and classrooms helps enforce the importance of the message. Students can even get involved, which will ensure they actually read the messages throughout the school. Use positive messages to show how dramatically a life is affected by drugs and how students who choose a drug free life achieve their goals and go on to live happier, healthier lives.

School Assemblies

Schools often hold assemblies during as one of their activities for Red Ribbon Week. Usually games and a speaker are involved. For a more unique approach, Perfection on Wheels offers Red Ribbon Week assembly programs full of professional BMX stunts designed to excite and educate. Hosting a unique assembly like this helps enforce the entire week’s message to focus on living your dreams instead of ruining your life with drugs.

While it may seem overly flashy, the approach is extremely effective. By first engaging students, our team is able to better teach the message of living drug free. From discussing the consequences to demonstrating the benefits of avoiding drugs, we educate with positive messages from start to finish and students never find themselves bored while learning a valuable lesson.
